My day on March 8, 2008 – Election Fever Part 3 March 8, 2008

Filed under: Politics — siaoyue @ 9:06 pm

The night before…

12.54am – Awakened by Balak’s sms.  He and Tommy are stuck in the crawl back to Alor Star.  Guess many ppl are going up North to vote as well.

5.08am – Rudely awakened again by a drunk Nick slurring though his sms in his Singlish about some chic! ….the nerve of him! just because we’re ‘cousins’ …

8.30a.m – Rise and shine.  Ready to start my day!!!

9.15a.m – Cast my vote in Jalan Bangkung school for Lembah Pantai constituency.  Done in 5 minutes.  The SPR usher mentioned that there is virtually nobody that age group voting in the school.  Shame on u….

9.45a.m – Reach grandma’s house.  She’s go gung-ho to vote!  And she’s 81 this year!  Walked down to the school down the road in Jalan Maarof to cast her vote.dscf3710.jpg

11am – We meet Kevin for lunch at La Bodega BSC.  Thanks Kev for the brunch.  Wait for my bonus..then my treat!

12.40 – Arrive at Sekolah Rendah Sungai Way.  I’m here to be a polling and counting agent for PJ utara.  Help where I can lor…Meet Anne ( my colleague) and Anttyk at the DAP booth, located further down the road.  Collect our stationery.  Agent Card.  Official forms etc.

1.05pm – I arrive at the Stream 7 classroom.  The situation was not as hostile as I thought.  Rather relaxed.  The polling clerks, presiding officers and opposition’s polling agent were all very friendly.  Instantly, I settled in.  We (me and the other polling agent) were each even offered a ‘char siew pau’ from one of the polling clerks!

Although till about 5 what I did was just sit at my little space allocated and strike off the names of those who have voted from the list and ensure no phantom voters, we still had a good laugh at some of the voters’ antics.  Lau Weng San from DAP (candidate for constituency N35 Kampung Tunku) pops by occasionally.

4.30pm -half hour to go.  me and anttyk constantly sms each other to keep ourselves entertained.  The second vote counter from both DAP and BN arrive.

5pm – Grrriing.  Bell rings.  Time’s up.  No more voting.  Door’s closed.  And let the counting begin……..Polling clerks seperate the votes…DAP…..BN…each into their allocated boxes………

6.30pm – We get the results…..woohooooooooooooooooooo….weeeheeeett.  Sms anttyk and Anne to wait at the DAP booth.  Got a couple of spoilt votes.  I just wonder to myself sometimes….if u already plan to tick both parties or try something funny, why even bother wasting ur time and petrol to drive to the polling centre …or are they just plain ignorant.  Considering my stream where the age group are ppl around late 40s early 50s….they would have probably already voted like what 5-6 times?

7pm – I see Anttyk running excitedly towards the booth.  *Overheard at the DAP booth. * Wa….look at that excited person running towards us…….I think he has good news…

7.15pm – Starts to drizzle heavily.  We bid goodbye.  Walking to my car, I met..or rather the most horrifying FLASHER met with me…the 3 girls walking in front absolutely ignored this flashing uncle.  And mind u, he was urgh…indeed this 50ish 60 something year old bullfrog and he had the cheek to flash in front of the police station in Sungai Way.  So take a wild guess how awful he must have looked.  If I were not sms-ing Anne precisely at the moment and taken aback by his actions, I bet I would have kicked him.

Let’s wait for the full results tonight……

What a way to end my eventful day!
