History is achieved.. Final Part of Election Fever March 9, 2008

Filed under: Politics — siaoyue @ 10:56 am

I stayed up until almost 3 am last night to follow the election results.  It is probably more seat gripping than watching Clovefield. I had the telly on and was refreshing the Malaysiakini.com page every other minute.  BN forms the federal government but the oppostion coalition of DAP-PAS-PKR has shocked the nation alike by winning five states, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kelantan and Perak.  A new Malaysia is reborn! BN has been denied of their 2/3 majority! LET’S ALL HOPE FOR A BETTER MALAYSIA TOMORROW…

Congratulations to DAP’s PJ Utara Tony Pua - where I went for our polling agent duties yesterday, who won by a whopping 19,000 votes!

Someone jokingly mentioned to me this morning that I may have to queue in seperate lines – guys one side, girls one side in supermarkets when visiting Balak in his Alor Star (in Kedah) hometown next Chinese New Year.  A ruling implemented by the PAS government in other states previously.  Well this ruling was no longer applied during my visit to Kota Bharu, Kelantan in the supermarkets.  However, men and women alike were still split into two different areas during the Hari Raya open house lunch gatherings in one of the major hospitals we audited two years back.  Not sure though if this is just an individual preference or state ruling……but I still found it amusing.

On a different note, Tok Mun, the 89 year old candidate for Kuala Terengganu has only managed to secure 685 votes and would therefore loose her RM10,000 deposits – as she has not managed to secure more than 1/8 of the seats.  However, her campaign volunteers have come up with a transparent system for all to donate to this courageous granny who have touched our lives in some way or another.  If you wish to donate, please goto her website for more details

I’ve made a RM20 contribution.  Hey…it might be a little meagre but something is better than nothing right?

My 2 nights of standing under the rain to cheer for DAP candidates has not been in vain. Now, I can say ‘Malaysia Boleh’ with pride. Malaysia Boleh!
